See Proverbs 30:24-28
As with the ant or locusts or a little lizard, we too are small when compared to the unimaginable size of the universe. When seen from the perspective of infinite time and space, we can become frozen by a sense of hopelessness because we ask how God could
care for someone as small and insignificant as I am?
This is a mystery, but it is a mystery that the Bible confronts time and again. We read stories in almost every book of Scripture telling how God uses seemingly insignificant people to accomplish his own purpose. Here is Moses, exiled from his people, being called back to lead them out of slavery in Egypt. Here is Sarah, old and without children, being told that she would bear a child who would be the child of God’s promise. Here is Esther, who summons all the courage she has to stand in the way of the total destruction of her people. And here is Mary, a young virgin, who is visited by an angel of God and who is told she will give birth to a child to be named Jesus who “will be great and will be called the son of the Most High” (Luke 1:31–32).
When Mary questions the visitor, she is told a truth that should lift our hearts: No matter how impossible, difficult, and terrible our situation might be, “Nothing is impossible with God” (Luke 1:37). When God calls us to His purpose, our answer should be the same as Mary’s: “My soul glorifies the Lord and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior, for he has been mindful of the humble state of his servant” (Luke 1:46–48).
